Working at an Election

We are recruiting now!

The council's Elections Team is currently recruiting staff to help deliver the Scottish Parliamentary Election on 7 May 2026. There will be opportunities for polling staff on Thursday 7 May and count staff on Friday 8 May and brief summaries of the roles are noted below.

Polling day - we will require clerks to be located in polling stations across West Lothian from 6:00am to 10:00pm to set up, check voters off registers and provide ballot papers to eligible voters.

Count - for Scottish Parliamentary Elections the ballot papers are counted manually so we will require staff to sort and count the papers. This will take place in Livingston and will start approx 8:00am/9:00am and will likely run until mid-afternoon.
