Fishing on the River Almond
The River Almond flows for 50km from the Cant Hills near Kirk of Shotts to where it enters the Firth of Forth at Cramond. Running through so many towns and villages, the Almond provides an ideal opportunity for angling in Central Scotland.
West Lothian Angling Association
West Lothian Angling Association (WLAA) is responsible for fishing on the River Almond from just above Newbridge including all tributaries (Breich, Linhouse, Murieston, and Killandean), including the section through the Almondell & Calderwood Country Park. The fishing is leased from Crown Estate Scotland and a permit is required, further information can be found on Fishing Around The Forth website.
WLAA aims to provide, promote and protect angling opportunities in West Lothian and offer seasonal opportunities for fly, bait and spinning. Brown trout and salmon are seen rising frequently on the River Almond and often caught on a catch and release basis accordance with the anglers code.
WLAA run open days for both members and the public and works with community groups and partners including Forth District Salmon Fishery Board and Forth Rivers Trust to improve fish populations, river habitats, water quality and opportunities to fish.
Permits
Annual permits and full details of code of conduct are available through the Fishing Around the Forth website and local outlets and children can fish for free with adult members.
