Element (03): Records Management Policy Statement

West Lothian Council's commitment to effective records management is set out in the corporate Information Governance Policy (PDF, 217 KB)(opens new window) and the Improvement Strategy (PDF, 479 KB)(opens new window). These are subject to ongoing monitoring and review.

Online guidelines and procedures are available to all staff e.g. Creating Records, Managing Records, Managing Emails, File Naming and Disposing of Records etc. These are supported by regular, mandatory online training and local experts within each service area.


The council has implemented an Enterprise Content Management System (ECM) as a central corporate repository. The ECM is compliant with the European MoReq2010 standard for the collection of information within records management systems. Read more about MoReq2 (opens new window).
