The UK Government has introduced incentive schemes which provide financial payment to encourage the installation of renewable technology installations
Overview
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) encourages people and businesses who generate surplus renewable energy to get paid for electricity they export back to the National Grid.
Who is eligible for the scheme?
Anyone with an installation of one of the following technology types up to a capacity of 5MW, or up to 50kW for micro-CHP:
Solar photovoltaic (solar PV)
Wind
Micro combined heat and power (micro-CHP)
Hydro
Anaerobic digestion (AD)
Installations must be located in Great Britain and meet the applicable eligibility criteria.
How to apply for the scheme?
SEG Licensees set the rate, contract length, and terms for SEG Generators. Payments, which must always be above zero, are based on export meter readings. Generators are paid by their chosen SEG Licensee for the electricity they send to the National Grid.
