Citizenship Ceremonies
Information regarding British Citizenship Ceremonies
West Lothian is proud to welcome new citizens. If you make a successful application for British Citizenship, you will receive a letter from the Home office inviting you to book an appointment within 21 days. We are currently seeing new citizens on an appointment basis at our Livingston Registration Office at a time that suits both parties.
All ceremonies are group ceremonies carried out once a month, however if you wish to have a private ceremony this incurs an additional fee and can be arranged at the next suitable date.
To book an appointment for your citizenship ceremony, please email registration@westlothian.gov.uk (opens new window)
When you attend your appointment you will be required to bring your Citizenship invitation letter from the Home Office and a form of photographic ID: i.e. (Passport, Travel Document, Driving Licence, Biometric Residence Card).
If you do not provide these documents you will not be permitted to attend the ceremony. A new appointment date will then need to be arranged.
Once you have contacted registration, your ceremony will take place on the agreed date and time. Please turn up on time for your ceremony.
You will be required to swear allegiance by either Oath or the Affirmation which can be confirmed when arranging your appointment.
When you arrive a member of staff will collect your invitation and check over all your documentation and explain the procedure for the appointment.
You will also be presented with a pack which contains:
- Your Citizenship Certificate
- An application form to join the Register of Electors
- An application form to apply for a British Passport (if requested)
